Cigarette Butt Leads To Arrest In Fatal Shooting
DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police say DNA from a cigarette butt has led to a suspect in the May fatal shooting of a game room security guard during a robbery.
Dallas County jail records show 31-year-old Rico Lara was being held Friday on a capital murder count.
Police on Thursday announced the charge in the May 14 slaying of Donald Kovar. Police located a cigarette butt near a gaming machine where Kovar and another man allegedly were sitting. Police are seeking the second suspect.
Lara also faces two counts of injury to a child. The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/1smzMDE ) reports Lara has been jailed since May 20 after he allegedly beat two relatives for breaking his phone. He's held on $550,000 bond.
An attorney for Lara didn't immediately return a message Friday.
