DALLAS (AP) — Nine small earthquakes have rattled a Dallas-area city in a span of less than 24 hours.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the temblors in the Irving area, including a 3.1 magnitude quake early Wednesday.

No major damage or injuries have been reported in the earthquakes that began around 7:30 a.m. CST Tuesday. USGS reports the magnitudes ranged from 1.6 to 3.6.

USGS geophysicist Carrieann Bedwell said Wednesday that the agency's senior scientists will be looking at the data from a seismic standpoint.

The Irving area, with a population topping 250,000, has seen a swarm of mild earthquakes recently. Researchers from Southern Methodist University this week installed a seismograph to help determine what's behind the increase.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest felt by humans.
