NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (AP) — Police investigating reports of gunfire near downtown New Braunfels (BRAHN'-felz) have arrested two men who had three dead deer in their truck.

Comal (KOH'-mal) County jail records show 25-year-old Eric Johnston and 39-year-old Anthony Castillo were being held Wednesday. Both are charged with misdemeanor hunting deer at night and hunting from a vehicle on a public roadway.

Online records don't list attorneys for the men, who were arrested early Tuesday with bond set at $6,000 each.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department says about 30 rounds were fired near two parks. Capt. Jeff Carter says the deaths of two bucks and a doe were apparently an "indiscriminate thrill killing." A rifle was found in the vehicle.

New Braunfels is a city of about 63,000, located 25 miles northeast of San Antonio.
