DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police say an off-duty officer working security at a business shot and killed a driver who accelerated toward him in a pickup truck.

Authorities say the officer went to investigate when several people told him on Monday they heard gunfire nearby. Police spokesman Maj. Jeff Cotner says the officer arrested a man who was running toward him. As he was taking the man into custody, he saw the truck speeding toward them and opened fire.

The driver was taken to a Dallas hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police didn't release his name.

Cotner says the officer, who wasn't identified, is upset over the incident.
