Big D Now Offers Bike Rentals

DALLAS (AP) — Dallas is ready to roll with a new bicycle sharing program at sprawling Fair Park.  

The rental project begins Saturday at two locations in the 277-acre park that's home to the annual State Fair of Texas, plus museums and concert venues.

Mayor Mike Rawlings went for a spin Thursday afternoon.

The Dallas City Council in March voted to provide up to $125,000 to the Friends of Fair Park. The nonprofit group will operate two bike rental stands at Fair Park, at a cost to riders of $5 for the first half-hour period, then $2.50 for each additional 30 minutes.

One bike stand is near the Dallas Area Rapid Transit light rail station on the park's west side. The other is close to DART's MLK, Jr. station.
