EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Strange lights seen near El Paso have turned out to be not so mysterious and more of a military nature.

A Fort Bliss spokesman said Wednesday that soldiers were conducting a training exercise and using illuminated ammunition.

Lt. Col. Craig Childs says Tuesday night's training included helicopters and field artillery units firing the illuminated rounds.

Childs describes the rounds as being like giant flares that light up an area for a few minutes before falling to the ground.
