Ten Percent Of Texas High School Seniors May Not Graduate In 2015

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Test results show nearly 10 percent of all Texas high school seniors are not on track to graduate this year.

The Texas Education Agency on Thursday reported December results of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STARR, exams.

Figures show 90.3 percent of the Class of 2015 successfully completed all exams for graduation.

The 2013 Legislature cut the number of end-of-course exams that Texas high school students must pass from a nation-leading 15 to five. The remaining tests cover Algebra I, English I and II, Biology and U.S. History.

The Class of 2015 will be the first to graduate under the new standards.

Last fall, nearly 84 percent of incoming seniors had passed all five assessments. Students still not passing have another chance in May.
