HOUSTON (AP) — A man accused of killing his Houston-area girlfriend and providing details to her mother by phone has been captured in Mexico.

San Diego County, California, jail records show 42-year-old Troy Aaron Clay was being held Friday on a Texas murder warrant.

The U.S. Marshal's Service says Clay was caught in Tijuana, Mexico, and turned over Thursday night to San Diego police.

The case involves the fatal stabbing of 36-year-old Melissa Morden.

Patricia Morden says she called Clay on Oct. 10 about why the couple never showed up for dinner. Investigators say Clay told the mother that he became enraged after earlier finding another man at the couple's apartment in Humble (UHM'-buhl).

The mother contacted police, who found Melissa Morden's body.

Online jail records don't list an attorney to speak for Clay.
