AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Texas unemployment rate rose slightly in June to reach 4.5 percent.

The Texas Workforce Commission on Friday reported that compares to a May jobless rate of 4.4 percent. The nationwide unemployment rate for June was 4.9 percent.

TWC officials say the Amarillo and Austin-Round Rock areas had the state's lowest jobless rate last month at 3.3 percent. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area had the state's highest unemployment during June at 8.2 percent.

A TWC statement says Texas has added an estimated 171,100 seasonally adjusted jobs over the past year with the addition of 7,200 nonfarm jobs in June.

Texas has added jobs in 14 of the last 15 months.
