AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Texas jobless rate for December rose slightly to reach 4.7 percent in the fourth straight month of higher unemployment.

The Texas Workforce Commission on Friday reported last month's figure compares to 4.6 percent unemployment in November. The nationwide jobless rate for December held steady at 5 percent.

Amarillo had the lowest average unemployment rate for Texas last month at 2.9 percent. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area had the state's highest jobless rate during December at 7.8 percent.

TWC figures show Texas employers expanded their payrolls in December with the addition of 24,900 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs. That's the 10th month of job increases for Texas during 2015.
