Senator Ted Cruz’s (R- Texas) Houston campaign office was evacuated on Tuesday (Oct. 2) after two people were exposed to a mysterious white powdery substance.

According to ABC affiliate, KTRK-TV, the Houston Fire Department gave the all-clear after all tests were negative for any hazardous substance. However, the two people that were exposed was taken to the hospital.

In addition, KAMC News reports the powder was inside mail that was sent to Senator Cruz’s office.

Also, on Tuesday, more than 1,000 miles away, officials said two suspicious packages were found in the Pentagon's mail screening facility. Investigators believe the two packages might contained ricin, which is a deadly poison.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

Senator Cruz and challenger Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D- El Paso) will take part in their second hour-long debate on Tuesday, October 16 in San Antonio.The debate, which focuses on domestic and foreign policy issues, will be televised state-wide at 8 p.m.

The debate was originally scheduled for last Saturday (Sept.29) in Houston, but it was cancelled as Senate Republicans considered voting on Brett Kavanagh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.
