DALLAS (AP) — A standoff at a Dallas apartment complex has ended in an incident that began as officers tried to serve a warrant in a Nebraska assault case.

Investigators didn't immediately provide the status of the person who was holed up in the apartment for nearly three hours Thursday morning.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department earlier said deputies were helping serve a warrant for assault and firearms charges. Sheriff's spokeswoman Melinda Urbina says the warrant from Omaha, Nebraska, names 32-year-old Robert James Covington.

Reports of shots fired, as officers seeking Covington arrived at the Dallas complex, led to the evacuation of nearby units.

KETV-TV reports an Omaha gas station clerk was wounded Jan. 16 while protecting a female co-worker who had rejected a customer's advances. The gunman then fled.
