HOUSTON (AP) — Houston police are investigating the death of a man who was fatally shot while fishing in a bayou.

Police say 39-year-old Michael Yates Jr. was fishing Sunday night in northeast Houston with two other individuals when an unidentified man approached the group and began speaking to them.

Investigators say the man then pulled out a gun and shot Yates. He tried shooting the others but his gun jammed. The other two individuals who were with Yates ran away from the gunman and called police.

Police said the other fishermen told investigators the shooting was unprovoked.

Authorities continue looking for the suspect.
