SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A San Antonio plastic surgeon faces up to 55 years in federal prison in a nearly $3 million tax evasion case.

Dr. Anthony Sertich Jr. was convicted Tuesday of tax evasion and of 10 counts of failure to truthfully account for and pay withholding taxes.

Prosecutors say the 59-year-old Sertich failed to pay employee withholding taxes from 2008 through 2010. Investigators say Sertich since 2002 had accrued more than $2.9 million in unpaid payroll taxes, penalties and interest.

Authorities say Sertich five times filed for personal or corporate bankruptcy to avoid paying the IRS and his creditors. Four of the bankruptcy petitions were later thrown out by a judge.

Sertich remains free pending sentencing in San Antonio.
