BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Travelers on parts of Interstate 10 in Southeast Texas face detours due to flooding of the nearby Sabine (suh-BEEN) River following recent heavy rains.

Beaumont police on Tuesday said rising water near eastbound I-10 prompted officers to reroute traffic.

Parts of Deweyville, a town of about 1,000 along the Sabine River, flooded over the weekend following storms and water releases from the Toledo Bend Reservoir. A mandatory evacuation order was issued Saturday.

Officials in Deweyville planned to provide an update Tuesday.

Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday declared 17 counties in east and southeast parts of Texas disaster areas due to the impact of high water from last week's storms.

U.S. Geological Survey field crews are measuring flooding in the Sulphur River, Cypress River and Sabine River basins.
