AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — An Amarillo police officer who was fired amid allegations he sexually assaulted a woman while on duty will not be prosecuted.

A Potter County grand jury on Tuesday declined to indict former Officer Micah Meurer. He was charged with sexual assault and official oppression.

Meurer was fired June 15, a day after investigators say he was dispatched to a 22-year-old woman's home. She filed a complaint saying Meurer sexually assaulted her. Police say Meurer was fired for violating internal rules.

Amarillo police declined to release details of the call for assistance.

A prosecutor says Meurer had responded to a call about a suspicious person. Attorneys for the woman say the incident was a domestic violence call.
