National Library Week
The second week of April is National Library Week. This year’s theme is “Libraries Transform.”
Libraries today are more about what they do, for and with library users as opposed to what they have for patrons. Libraries aren’t only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where people can collaborate using new technologies, learn how to use a 3D printer or just relax.
Our library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, including downloadable e-books and audio books; databases that improve access to a wide variety of reliable information that can be accessed in person or online; and free classes on technology and personal devices. Libraries are evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve.
Tom Green County libraries are transforming by staying abreast of new technologies and making them available to the community. Service to the community has always been the focus of the public library,” said Jill Donegan, Library Director. “Libraries level the playing field for people of all ages who are seeking access to information and technologies that can improve quality of life.”
Libraries are many things to many people. They work with elected officials, small business owners, not-for-profit organizations, students and the public at large to discover and address the needs of their communities. Whether through offering e-books and technology classes, materials for English-language learners, programs for job seekers; libraries and librarians listen to the community they serve, and they respond.
Tom Green County Library is celebrating National Library Week by accepting food for fines. Bring in one can of food for the CV Food Bank, for each late fee to be forgiven April 11 – 16. Patrons may also pick up a reusable book bag while supplies last.
