While enroute to the call, Officers received additional information about the suspect’s description and that he kicked the front glass door.

Upon arrival, Officer C. Schneider observed several citizens pointing at the suspect, who was attempting to walk away.  Officer Schneider approached the man and directed him to stop several times but the man refused to comply, raised his fists, and threatened to harm the Officer.

After threatening the Officer, the suspect ran back towards the store where he was taken into custody with assistance from an Air Force Military Police Officer who was nearby.

The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Gilberto Lee Barrientos of San Angelo.  Employees said Barrientos stole 5 boxes of miscellaneous candy from the store prior to police arrival.  Some of the candy was located in Barrientos’s pocket at the time of arrest and other candy was located near a sidewalk.

Barrientos was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and booked for Class C Misdemeanor Theft, Evading Arrest Detention, and Criminal Mischief for damaging the store’s door.
