CAMERON, Texas (AP) — A man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the March fatal shooting of a man in front of a Central Texas home.

Milam County officials say 54-year-old Ricardo Cruz Munoz of Rockdale was sentenced Wednesday in the slaying of 41-year-old Francisco Avila. Police say the shooting in Cameron came after an argument that started in a bar.

Witnesses have said that at the time of the shooting, Avila was standing in the front yard with his sister, her husband and her 8-year-old son. Police said his sister's husband and son were also struck by bullets, injuries the prosecutor says were taken into consideration during sentencing.

Munoz was convicted of two killings in Starr County in 1986 and was paroled in 1997.
