DALLAS (AP) — Investigators say a Dallas man has been accused of killing his 58-year-old aunt in their home after he allegedly tried to set the place on fire.

Dallas police say 29-year-old Ernest William Scruggs Jr. was being held Wednesday on capital murder and arson charges, with $1 million bond.

Garland police Tuesday night arrested Scruggs on an arson warrant. Investigators say he provided information on the death of Georgia Lynn Scruggs.

An apartment complex manager discovered her body Jan. 13 after associates reported the woman never showed up for work.

A coroner says Georgia Scruggs died of sharp force injuries. Police believe she was killed Jan. 10 and her wallet and cellphone were stolen.

Authorities didn't immediately provide details on the arson case or an attorney to speak for Ernest Scruggs.
