DALLAS (AP) — Police say a Dallas man has been charged with animal cruelty after his pet dog was found beaten to death.

Dallas police on Monday said 35-year-old Thyren Justice was arrested on a charge of cruelty to non-livestock animals by torture.

Police say Justice was arrested early Sunday after the dog was found dead in his home.

A police statement says officers responded to a 911 call about a disturbance at some apartments, a dog heard barking and stomping sounds. Officers found the small black and white dog dead. Police say Justice gave contradicting information on how the dog died.

Dallas County jail records Tuesday no longer listed Justice in custody. An attorney for Justice, Pete Schulte, says the public should withhold judgment until all of the facts are known.
