Court Of Criminal Appeals Grants New Trial For Cop’s Daughter

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Texas' highest criminal appeals court has upheld the decision to throw out the murder conviction and 70-year prison sentence for the daughter of a San Antonio police sergeant.  

The San Antonio Express-News (http://bit.ly/1sfmgVM ) reports the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals said Wednesday it was affirming the opinion of the 4th Court of Appeals granting Vanessa Cameron a new trial.

Cameron remains free on bail awaiting the new trial.

A jury convicted Cameron in 2012 for orchestrating the kidnapping and murder in 2010 of 26-year-old Samuel Allen Johnson Jr., her child's father.

The Court of Appeals granted Cameron a new trial a year ago, noting in an opinion that her "constitutional right to a public jury trial was violated" when her supporters were unable to observe jury selection.
