In a report from Texas Monthly Magazine Thursday, the Baylor University Athletic Department appeared to hide or cover up a sexual assault from the public eye by one of their own student-athletes.

Texas Monthly obtained court records indicating that highly touted defensive lineman Sam Ukwuachu sexually assaulted a female in October of 2013.

The story itself is horrifying and gets worse as you read along to discover that Ukwuachu had a previous incident in May 2013 in Idaho where he was a Freshman All-American for the Boise State Broncos.

Ukwuachu was found guilty of second-degree sexual assault Thursday, August 20 and is expected to be sentenced today, Friday, August 21. The story also points out a 2012 incident with a Baylor football player in similar situation where the University didn’t appear to take the matter seriously.

We’re twelve years removed from the basketball scandal in Waco involving then Baylor Head Coach Dave Bliss covering up a player being murdered by another player and trying to implicate the victim as a kid mixed up with drugs.

It remains to be seen if Baylor, a private Southern Baptist Church university, will do the right thing in this situation or punt on the matter entirely without upholding the ideals of their university and, more importantly, the faith they claim to espouse.
