Angelo State & Howard College Join for New Mathways Project

Angelo State University has signed an agreement to partner with Howard College in the statewide New Mathways Project (NMP) to improve student success in both developmental and college-level mathematics courses.

NMP courses are designed to enable students placed into developmental mathematics to complete a credit-bearing, transferable mathematics course on an accelerated timeline. The goal of the ASU/Howard College partnership is to ensure that students at Howard College who participate in the NMP can seamlessly transfer college-level mathematics courses to ASU that satisfy general education core requirements and/or major-specific mathematics course requirements.

The two schools will also partner in the NMP Transfer Champions Initiative that will support the NMP by pointing Howard College students toward the specific mathematics courses that will best transfer to their prospective majors at ASU.

“The NMP develops math courses that align with specific majors and strives to allow students to progress through college-level math courses more quickly,” said Kerri Mikulik, ASU assistant director of admissions. “ASU will work closely with Howard College to ensure that students are being advised to take appropriate math courses that will transfer into their desired field of study. The institutions also commit to join professional development opportunities for counselors and advisors. ASU is proud to collaborate with Howard College on this initiative.”

The NMP is a joint initiative of the Charles A. Dana Center at the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Association of Community Colleges.
