For some reason, I always had the impression that we couldn't grow lavender very well in East Texas. I was thrilled to find out that isn't the case. There's something particularly wonderful to me about lavender. Obviously, it's relaxing properties are useful but the smell is also just lovely--which is probably why it's such a go-to for making soaps, lotions...salves of all kinds really. "Salve." What a funny word.

Anyway, I don't know if you or your family have ever had the chance to venture over to Blue Moon Gardens just outside of Edom--but this is one of my East Texas "happy places." More on that later. But, for now I wanted to let you know that THIS Saturday, April 27, Blue Moon Gardens is celebrating "all things lavender" during their open house. It's going on from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

During the day they will have free programs if you or your significant other want to learn more about what types of lavender work best in our East Texas climate, as well as how to best harvest and utilize it. If you'd like, you can pay a low fee to try your hand at making your own bath salts or body polish or watch a demo about making home sprays or body powder. An interesting Mother's Day gift idea, perhaps? Guys, if this sounds a bit too "florally-involved" for you personally, then tell (or take) your lady, significant other, or your Mom--they'd probably love it. I would.

Learn more here. ;)
