5 Year Old Dies After Being Mauled By Dogs

VIDOR, Texas (AP) — A 5-year-old boy who was visiting a Southeast Texas home with his mother has died after being mauled by two dogs at the residence.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the dogs attacked Tanner Smith at the home in Vidor (VY'-dur) and he was taken to a Beaumont hospital where he died.

Authorities say the boy and his mother were visiting a friend Sunday evening and the woman thought her friend's husband was outside watching the boy. When the woman learned the husband was not at the residence she went outside and found her injured son.

The husband was notified of what happened and returned to the home and put down both dogs.

No other information was immediately available.
