WESLACO, Texas (AP) — A trucker from the Houston area has been arrested after more than $1.2 million was confiscated from his rig in South Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Wednesday announced the bundles of money were found during a traffic stop in the Weslaco area.

A DPS trooper around dawn Monday pulled over a tractor-trailer rig. Authorities did not immediately provide details on what led to the traffic violation stop or where the money was hidden in the trailer.

DPS says the driver, 51-year-old Roman M. Sanchez of Katy, was detained on federal money laundering charges. Authorities did not immediately provide custody details on Sanchez or information on an attorney to speak for him.
