Traffic Accident Kills Two
GARLAND, Texas (AP) — A fiery two-vehicle accident on Interstate 30 near Dallas has killed a Missouri man and his toddler son.
Garland police say a woman driving the family's SUV and the other driver were hurt in Monday night's wreck. Investigators say speed was a factor.
Police say traffic had slowed on I-30 due to an earlier accident when a larger SUV rear-ended a smaller SUV carrying the family from Cape Girardeau (juh-RAHR'-doh), Missouri. Both vehicles burst into flames.
Police say 28-year-old Jarred Schumpert and 2-year-old Lyndon Schumpert died at the scene. Schumpert's wife was transported for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Garland police say the driver of the larger SUV was taken to another hospital with injuries also not believed to be life-threatening.
I-30 reopened early Tuesday.
