Tuesday, in Austin, Texas senator, Jose Menendez , filed Senate Bill 269 to legalize the use of medical marijuana to help patients with chronic disabilities in the state.According to the San Antonio Current, a crowd of veterans, doctors and patients were on hand at the State Capitol to show their support  for the bill.

With medical marijuana already legal in 28 states and Washington D.C., Sen. Menendez  feels that Texans shouldn't have leave the state for treatment.

The senator went on to explain, “I filed this bill because doctors, not politicians, should determine the best treatment for severely ill Texans. This is a legitimate medicine that can help a variety of sick people from a grandmother suffering from cancer to a veteran coping with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).”

The bill is up for consideration in the state's 2017 legislative session.
