Eight high school students in Denver, Colorado posed for a prom photo that has gotten them noticed ... but not in a good way. The student's chose to pose for a prom picture with the boys holding a confederate flag, and the girls holding guns. Now, the posted photo has stirred up some feelings among parents, friends, and fellow students.

While the Confederate flag is not illegal in the United States, it does have a certain connotation that people cannot see past. A mother of one of the students in the photo told FOX31 Denver,

"I think in (the students') immaturity they kind of think it is a cowboy thing, but to have parents feed into it and support it is really upsetting to me."

No rules were broken and the photo was taken on private property, so no action can be taken by the school. However, Arturo Aldama, an ethnic studies professor at University of Colorado-Boulder released a statement saying,

"Not to mention, the Confederate flag and its legacy of white supremacy, Klan violence and the Jim Crow South," Aldama said.

What do you think about the whole situation? Is the Confederate flag a symbol of 'white supremacy... and the Jim Crow South' or a piece of American history - good, bad, or indifferent? You tell us.
