Spring Storms Bring Twisters To The Lonestar State

WAXAHACHIE, Texas (AP) — A severe storm system that swept across parts of Texas brought numerous reports of tornadoes, damage to buildings, large hail and several inches of rain.

The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth said Sunday night it received reports of twisters in rural Johnson and Hill counties. The weather service has not confirmed those reports.

Broadcast images showed flattened buildings and roofs torn from structures. There were no accounts of injuries.

Hail described as ping-pong size and larger showered the area.

NWS forecaster Lamont (luh-MONT') Bain says severe weather reached Comanche, Erath (EE'-rath), Somervell, Bosque (BAHS'-kee), Hill and Johnson counties. He says Glen Rose received more than 4 inches of rain.

Part of the Waxahachie (wahks-uh-HA'-chee) police headquarters, south of Dallas, flooded as water several inches deep rushed into the building.
