Shannon Clinic is hosting a walk-in flu shot clinic October 26-30.

The clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first floor of the downtown location, 120 E. Beauregard. The flu shot available at this year’s clinic is a quadrivalent vaccine designed to protect against four strains of the virus.

The clinic will accept and file insurance, or patients may pay $25 per shot. This flu shot clinic is for patients age 18 and up. The high dose flu vaccination is available for patients age 65 and up. No appointment is necessary.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people receive their flu vaccine as soon as the vaccine becomes available in their community. Vaccination before December is best since the timing ensures that protective antibodies are in place before flu activity is typically at its highest.

The flu shot is an inactivated vaccine that contains killed virus and is given with a needle, usually in the arm. Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body and the antibodies provide protection against influenza virus infection.

The flu shot is approved for people six months of age or older, including healthy people as well as those with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease.
