Funeral services for Police Sgt. Korby Kennedy, who was killed in a traffic accident while on duty Thursday evening, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Coliseum, 50 E. 43rd St. The public is invited.

A procession will begin at noon from Johnson’s Funeral Home to the Coliseum.  For citizens wanting to line up along the street, the procession will leave Johnson’s Funeral Home east on Beauregard and turn north on Koenigheim.  The procession will then proceed north on Koenigheim and merge with N. Bryant Blvd., turn east on 29th Street, the proceed north on N. Chadbourne St. to Coliseum Dr., and into the Coliseum parking lot.

As members of the community arrive at the Coliseum, please begin parking in the west side parking lot first.  Once this lot is full, parking will begin at the rear of the east side parking lot.  There will be traffic control assisting with this process.

The doors to the Coliseum will open to the public at 1 p.m.  The San Angelo Police Department and the Kennedy family ask that the members of the community attending the services begin filling the blue seats inside the Coliseum first.  The red box seats will be reserved for San Angelo Police Department employees and family, city employees, and city officials.

At the conclusion of the inside service, a committal service will be held directly outside the Coliseum for law enforcement officers and family only.  The committal service will be broadcasted on big screens inside the Coliseum in order for those who remain inside to be able to view that portion of the service.  The SAPD and Kennedy family ask that all citizens in attendance remain inside during this portion of the service.

At the conclusion of the committal service, there will be a second procession back to Johnson’s Funeral Home.  The route will be the direct opposite of the route taken to get to the Coliseum.  It is anticipated this procession will begin around 3:30 p.m.  Citizens may start to exit the Coliseum upon conclusion of the committal service to see the progression leave.  It is requested that no one attempt to leave until after the progression has left the parking lot.

The SAPD and the Kennedy family ask all of the members of the community in attendance to please honor all of these requests.  The SAPD and the Kennedy family would like to be able to fill the Coliseum with those who wish to honor the memory of Sgt. Korby Kennedy and therefore encourage anyone who is able to attend the services to do so.

For those unable to attend the services, KIDY Fox will broadcast the service live beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Due to the services for Sgt. Kennedy, the San Angelo Police Department offices will be closed today.  Essential personnel still be on patrol, though.

Police Chief Tim Vasquez thanks everyone for the outpouring of love and support from the community.
