BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — A Southeast Texas school district will try to recover money and property seized in a $4 million embezzlement case that sent two ex-finance officers to prison.

The Beaumont Enterprise (http://bit.ly/1mLqhAD ) reports state-appointed managers of the Beaumont Independent School District voted Monday to try to recoup the losses.

Former finance director Devin Wayne McCraney in April pleaded guilty to fraud upon programs receiving federal funds. Ex-comptroller Sharika Baksh Allison pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud upon programs receiving federal funds.

McCraney on Sept. 18 was sentenced to nearly six years in prison. Allison was sentenced to nearly four years. Both were ordered to pay $4 million in restitution from the wire-transfer scam.

The Texas Education Agency earlier this year took over the Beaumont district, which has nearly 21,000 students.
