The Southside Lions Club's annual Cinco de Mayo celebration will be this Friday, May 1, through Sunday, May 3, at El Paseo de Santa Angela.

The activities will be from 6 p.m.-11:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The sixth annual Cinco de Mayo Thunder in the Conchos car, truck and bike show begins at noon Sunday at the neighboring Farmers Market Pavilion, with festivities continuing at El Paseo from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children 10 and younger.

Food vendors will be selling aguas frescas, helotes, carnitas, burgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes and fruit cups.Ballet Azteca dancers will perform at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, followed by mariachi music from Mariachi Alma Mexicana at 8 p.m. A dance featuring DJ Gocha will cap the evening.A carnival with rides and other amusements will occur nightly from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. from Thursday though Sunday.

More more than 50 years, the Southside Lions have sponsored the Cinco de Mayo celebration to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla. The date is a national holiday in Mexico.
