The San Angelo Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday night in the unit block of W. Avenue O.

Just before 9:30 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the residence for the report of a shooting.  Officers arrived and located a 31-year-old San Angelo man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers provided first aid to the victim until Fire Department Medics arrived.  The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Crime Scene Investigations and Criminal Investigations responded to the scene to further investigate.  It was discovered that a Hispanic male assaulted and shot the victim in front of the victim’s residence then stole a red 1991 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck the victim had been operating.  After the shooting, the victim went to a neighbor’s house for help.

Physical evidence of the shooting was located at the crime scene.  The suspect is still at large; however, Investigators are pursuing several leads.

Around 2:45 a.m. Thursday morning, San Angelo Police Patrol Officer R. Espinoza was patrolling in the 600 block of San Jacinto attempting to locate a stolen vehicle from an unrelated incident when he observed a beige PT Cruiser blocking the alley.

Officer Espinoza observed a male driver exit the vehicle and walk away.  Officer Espinoza made contact with the vehicle, which was unoccupied, and discovered it had been reported stolen on November 30, 2016 from a residential burglary in the 800 block of Paint Rock Road.

Officer Espinoza located the male as he exited a nearby residence and detained him.  The Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene for further investigation.

Subsequent to the field investigation, Detectives learned the driver had borrowed the vehicle from another person and was not charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

The 2006 PT Cruiser was released to the registered owner at the scene.

The suspect of the Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle case is still at large and Investigators are pursuing leads.

11/30/16:

CORTEZ, MATTHEW ANGEL- age 17 was arrested for POSS MARIJ <2OZ around 10:59 AM in the 600 block of Caddo Street.

GARZA, JESUS DAVID- age 40 was arrested for DRIVING WHILE LICENSE INVALID around 9:40 AM in the 500 block of E. 40th Street.

HARWELL, SELENA- age 43 was arrested for ASSAULT BY CONTACT around 7:54 p.m. after Police were dispatched to the 5800 block of Berkley Road for the report of an assault.  During the investigation, Harwell repeatedly kicked a responding officer’s legs.

TRUJILLO, CARLOS ALBERTO- age 27 was arrested for EVADING ARREST DETENTION W/VEH around 7:11 PM after he was determined to be the suspect who fled a traffic stop earlier in the day. Police attempted to stop Trujillo around 5:00 PM for speeding in the 600 block of Abe but Trujillo fled. A short pursuit ensued but Trujillo was not immediately located. He was located in the evening at his residence due to follow-up investigation by patrol officers. Trujillo also received a Citation for Speeding.

WOLF, ROGER JAMES- age 52 was arrested for PUBLIC INTOXICATION around 8:59 PM after Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Culberson Street for the report of an unwanted subject.
