After the Rangers dropped the first game of the series against Alfredo Simon and the Detroit Tigers, the Rangers followed up with three straight wins to take the series.

Colby Lewis got to 14 wins with a shout out victory on Friday night. New Ranger Will Venable got an RBI and saved a run on defense with a great play. He will continue to split time with Ryan Strausborger.

The Rangers followed that showing up on Saturday with eight more innings of shutout baseball until Ian Kinsler hit a home run in the bottom of the 9th to pull within two runs. The improved Ranger bullpen held intact when the suddenly shaky Shawn Tolleson came in to get the last out.

Sunday afternoon, the Rangers were trying to avoid a split of the four game series by winning three out of four. Also trying to get an important win was Cole Hamels, who was trying to get his first win in a Ranger uniform.

Hamels worked six innings of two-run baseball to get that win. Mike Napoli ripped his second home run since being back with Texas.

This weekend makes the Rangers 8-2 in the last 10 games and if the season ended today they would be a Wild Card team.

They are also in sole possession of 2nd place in the AL West and have just four more games to gain on Houston. The only problem is, Houston is just as hot as you are.

The Rangers have the schedule to continue beating the teams around them in the standings, including the Angels and Astros.
