LUFKIN, Texas (AP) — Police are trying to determine who shot an East Texas postal worker in the leg as she delivered mail in a neighborhood.

Lufkin police say the 25-year-old worker was treated for an injury not believed to be life-threatening. Police believe the woman was shot with some sort of air gun or rifle.

Nobody was immediately arrested. Messages left Monday with Lufkin police and the U.S. Postal Service were not immediately released.

The shooting happened Saturday as the postal worker was walking her regular route in Lufkin, about 100 miles northeast of Houston.

Police say the mail carrier heard a pop, felt a pain in her leg, fell to the ground and realized she was bleeding. She called a supervisor, who summoned police.

The victim's name wasn't immediately released.
