AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Austin police have detained a suspect after a tactical officer was shot while trying to serve a drug-related search warrant at a home.

Police say the officer suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening and was in stable condition Thursday at an Austin hospital.

Police Chief Art Acevedo (ah-seh-VAY'-doh) says someone inside the home fired multiple times shortly before dawn Thursday, wounding one officer outside.

Another officer returned fire and then an 18-year-old man, who's believed to be the gunman, walked out of the home and surrendered. The suspect was not wounded.

Information wasn't immediately released on any charges. Acevedo says police recovered drugs at the home.

The name of the wounded officer was not immediately released.
