COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — A museum featuring World War II tanks and other military vehicles has opened after more than a decade of planning.

The Museum of the American G.I. was established in 2001 but construction of the building in College Station, about 100 miles northeast of Austin, didn't begin until 2011. It opened to visitors Friday.

The Eagle newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1FIUyFC ) it features some of the rarest vehicles in the country.

A large warehouse displays 16 vehicles from conflicts dating back to World War I. Sherman tanks and a river boat used during the Vietnam War are included in the museum.

Also on display are uniforms worn in various wars.
