GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A Southeast Texas woman must serve 10 years in prison for the suffocation death of her daughter by tying pajama bottoms around the toddler's head.

Kayla Stouten-Orozco was sentenced Monday in Galveston. Prosecutors say the 24-year-old Galveston woman was convicted Friday of child endangerment in a case involving a crying child.

Stouten-Orozco originally was charged with murder in the 2014 death of her 15-month-old daughter, Estrellia Enriquez. Jurors convicted the mother on a lesser count.

Investigators say Stouten-Orzco eventually asked a neighbor to call 911 to request assistance for the child. Emergency medical personnel determined the youngster had been dead for a couple of hours before help was summoned.

Prosecutors say the girl died as a result of the mother's actions.
