LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — The mother of a disabled teenager found dead in February is being held in the Lubbock County jail on allegations that she knew the teen's stepfather was sexually assaulting her yet did nothing to protect the girl.

Thirty-eight-year-old Debi Holland is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a disabled person. Also being held is her husband, 39-year-old James Holland, facing multiple charges that include continuous sexual abuse of a child.

The sheriff's office released a statement Friday saying Debi Holland had been arrested and that additional charges are pending.

Authorities say James Holland repeatedly assaulted 18-year-old Holli Jeffcoat, described as a special needs student.

The investigation into Jeffcoat's stabbing death continues.

Online jail records do not show an attorney for either Debi or James Holland to speak on their behalf.
