Man Found Dead After Police Standoff

ROCKPORT, Texas (AP) — Police in Southeast Texas say a man was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after barricading himself and his 8-month-old son in a home during a standoff with authorities. The child was unharmed.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times (http://bit.ly/1oEpJhG ) reports that Rockport police found the man dead in the house Thursday morning after a more than three-hour standoff. Police say he apparently killed himself about an hour before authorities entered.

Police say that as officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call, 28-year-old Elvin Clyde Loyd III barricaded himself and his son inside an apartment. Police say that during the standoff's first hour, the man fired several shots inside and outside the house.

Rockport is located 30 miles northeast of Corpus Christi.
