GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — Upgrades have begun on sidewalks along Galveston's Seawall Boulevard with improvements expected to be finished by this spring.

The Galveston County Daily News (http://bit.ly/1ZmvJr2 ) reported Thursday that crews are fixing worn and cracked sidewalks on both sides of the boulevard.

The $1.4 million Galveston County project involves about 16 miles of sidewalk on the heavily traveled tourist area.

Lucas Construction Co. started work this week. The project is expected to be finished by May.

Nearly $5 million in city-sponsored improvements along Seawall Boulevard are pending, involving restrooms and shower stations.
