SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A South Texas man has been indicted in a string of bank robberies along the Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio.

Willie James Cleveland of San Antonio faces nine bank robbery counts in holdups since February that netted more than $50,000.

Federal prosecutors in San Antonio on Wednesday night announced the indictment related to banks robbed in San Antonio, Austin, San Marcos and New Braunfels (BRAHN'-felz). Several of the financial institutions are located along I-35.

Investigators say the 34-year-old Cleveland, in at least three robberies last month, allegedly assaulted or threatened bank personnel.

San Antonio police arrested Cleveland on April 20. He was indicted Tuesday.
