HOUSTON (AP) — Houston's police chief says hundreds of drivers ticketed for traffic violations could be getting the tickets dismissed because the officers whose names are on the citations may not have been present when the violation occurred.

Chief Charles McClelland says an internal affairs investigation is focusing on four officers. They were all relieved of duty last month. One of them was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound the day he was suspended.

McClelland said Thursday he'd rather dismiss hundreds or thousands of tickets than have a tainted one go forward and somebody be convicted of a citation that's not true or accurate.
