TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) — A Houston man has died after crashing his motorcycle while leading police on an eight-mile chase in Southeast Texas.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials tell The Galveston County Daily News (http://bit.ly/1dHpLje ) that a trooper had tried to pull over 24-year-old Tyler Barela on Saturday night on Interstate 45 for driving at a speed of more than 130 mph and weaving in and out of traffic.

DPS officials say Barela refused to pull over and lost control of his motorcycle near Interstate 45 in La Marque. Troopers say the bike swerved into a grassy area and Barela was flung more than 100 feet from his motorcycle.

He was airlifted to a hospital with severe head injuries. He died Sunday afternoon.
