Greenville Man Sentenced To Life

MIDLAND, Texas (AP) — A North Texas man has been sentenced to life in federal prison for taking an 11-year-old girl to Mexico and molesting her.

Joel Aguirre-Lara of Greenville was sentenced Thursday in Midland.

Jurors last October convicted the 35-year-old Aguirre-Lara of transportation of a minor to engage in sexual activity and aggravated sexual abuse of a child under age 12.

Prosecutors say Aguirre-Lara, who formerly lived in Del Rio, took the girl to Ciudad Acuna, Mexico, in January 2014.

One of the victim's relatives last April reported the suspected abuse to authorities in Midland County. Aguirre-Lara was arrested in Greenville.
