Green’s Grocery & Café and Howard College were among the four winners of the 2014 Development & Design Awards, which were handed out Tuesday night at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.

Presented by the City of San Angelo’s Planning and Development Service Department and co-sponsored by the Home Builders Association of San Angelo and the San Angelo Association of Realtors, awards were presented in the following categories:

  • Adaptive Reuse – Green’s Grocery & Café was cited as a shining example of a sustainable design by renovating or creatively reusing an existing building – in this case, a former Luby’s cafeteria at 4240 Southwest Blvd. The developer was BBS Ventures Management and the contractor was Century Builders.
  • Architectural Commercial Design – Howard College’s new student center was honored as an outstanding architectural design in new construction. The facility’s architect was Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. of Lubbock and its contractor was Lee Lewis Construction.
  • Landscape of the Year – The Concho River revitalization project was honored as a superior investment in high-quality commercial landscaping design. The project was designed by Kinney Franke Architects. Construction Manager David Knapp served as the City’s liaison on the project.
  • Residential Design – The Cunningham residence at 2666 Kings Road was lauded as an outstanding home design in new construction. The home’s builder was Todd Whittley Construction.
