The Fort Concho Civil War Speaker Series begins this Wednesday.
There's a free lunchtime lecture by local historian John Vaughn on "The South Bank." Bring your lunch or call 325-657-4441 by 5 p.m. the preceding Monday to order a brown bag lunch for $8 from Mr. T's deli.

The Fort Concho Speaker Series lineup for the rest of the month includes:

Wednesday, Sept. 10 - "The Last Train from San Angelo" by local historian Bruce McLaren

Wednesdays, Sept. 17 and 24 - "A Nation Divided - Life and Times in the Civil War," a two-part lecture by Judith Jackson of the Buffalo Gap Historic Village. Step back to the early 1860s, where you can be personally touched by the conflict that evoked more emotion in Americans than at any other time in our history. Experience the life and hardships of the common soldier, see his uniforms, taste his food, touch his weapons, and listen to his music. Hear human interest stories about doctors, chaplains and the role that women and children played during the Civil War.
